The pandemic-induced slow down has taken its toll on all walks of life. Lives and livelihoods have left the shores of normalities. When the future looks weary, we must seek new normals to start afresh.

India’s weaving industry has been among the worst affected since the outbreak of Covid-19 when they have surplus stock at home but no money. The cadence of the looms weaving together has vanished into the warp and weft of the sickening air. But we, the Impresa community, was not ready to let our looms silenced for long. We are still in a pursuit to knit a safety net for the weavers by actuating the Handloom Challenge.

Here, you buy a handloom fabric having a length of 2.5 meters or its multiples with a price starting from 550 Rs. Just like any other online shopping, but it’s beyond that. When you shop a material as part of the ‘Handloom Challenge’, you spin a smile back on its maker’s face. Though the handloom weavers are one of the largest providers of the rural workforce, they are now economically the weaker section too. India has a legacy of handloom weaving with it’s ethnic, the earthly colored fabric having bountiful textures. It holds real potential if one is ready to innovate. Impresa has been trying to reclaim its glorious past. When this new setback puts up a challenge on our path, it may be overcome by a counter challenge. That’s what it is all about.

Just when things looked hopeless, a myriad of people came along and took part in the challenge to save the day. We can’t thank them enough for not letting us down. It was a challenging time but they made us to sail through. We look forward to your continuous support. Let us together make a chain not to break the yarns.

The project lasted for 160 days and got closed officially on 31 st of Dec 2020 with supporting a lot of beneficiaries in the weaving domain
